The Sarnia Sting advanced to the second round of the OHL playoffs for the first time in a decade Sunday by downing the Windsor Spitfires 5-2 in Windsor.
The Sting, which won the series 4-2, outplayed and outshot the Spits, who relied heavily on the outstanding play of netminder Michael DiPietro.
Scoring for Sarnia were Franco Sproviero, Jonathan Ang and Jordan Ernst, Ryan McGregor and Hugo Leufvenius.
With the victory, Sarnia moves on to the Western Conference semi-final against the Kitchener Rangers. The first two games of the series will be played in Kitchener, with dates to be determined.
