Solar farm still proposed for city airport

A company that wants to set up a six-acre solar farm at Sarnia’s airport will try, try again. The Ontario Power Authority did not approve EEDI Solar Projects’ initial request but it intends to reapply, city staff say.

A company that wants to set up a six-acre solar farm at Sarnia’s airport will try, try again.

The Ontario Power Authority did not approve EEDI Solar Projects’ initial request but it intends to reapply, city staff say.

The proposal calls for solar panels to be erected on six acres of unused land on the west side of Sarnia Chris Hadfield Airport.

If approved, a sub-lease on the ground would provide Scottsdale Aviation, which operates the airport on the city’s behalf, with $10,000 in rent a year for 20 years.

That money could offset costs and the airport’s overall declining revenue stemming from fewer daily flights and passengers.
