Schaefer to compete at Commonwealth Games in Australia

Sarnia’s Emily Schaefer has been chosen by Wrestling Canada to represent the country at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Sarnia’s Emily Schaefer has been chosen by Wrestling Canada to represent the country at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

The Brock University student, who will compete in the 57-kg division, was one of six women and six men named to the team.

The Northern Collegiate grad is a four-time provincial high school wrestling champion.

“We go into the 2018 Games with high expectations in terms of performance and anticipate that the experience gained in Australia will be invaluable leading towards the preparation for the 2020 Olympic Games,” said Wrestling Canada executive director Tamara Medwidsky.

The Commonwealth Games take place April 4-15 with 70 participating countries and more than 4,000 athletes taking part.
