The Sarnia Spirit U13 girls soccer club ended a terrific season with yet another tournament win.

The Spirit emerged victorious from the Michigan Soccer Classic, claiming the title after a 1-0 win over Nationals St. Clair. Sarah Gardner scored the only goal needed.

It was the sixth tournament the girls entered this year and their fourth victory.

Head coach Kevin Simmonds said the team really showed its prowess because the Michigan Classic is U15 tournament and the girls were playing up an age division.

The Spirit also finished first overall in the Tier 1 Elgin-Middlesex soccer league. Over 13 league games they won 11, lost one and tied one.

“We had the league won three weeks before it ended,” Simmonds said.

“I don’t think we’re the strongest team but we have some very good players. In other words, we’re a very offensive team.”

The Spirit are now gearing up for the indoor season at the BMO league in London.
