Sarnia players shine at tourney

Three Sarnia tennis players captured titles at the in 57th annual Francis J. Robinson Tennis Tournament in Port Huron.

Junior Andrew Davies scored two victories, in the 14s Boys and Mixed doubles with partners from the Port Huron area.

Junior Monika Polakovic won the 18s Girls doubles, and veteran Betty Latosinsky won the 35 and over Women’s doubles, also with partners from the Port Huron area

The highlight of area summer tennis calendar featured 230 players competing at Sanborn Park in Port Huron earlier this month.

A number of Sarnia-area players also made the finals, including Jaxon Bore, Chandler Haagsma and Andrew Davies in their respective boys singles flights.

Betty Latosinsky made the final of her women’s singles flight.

Evan Duggal and Jaxon Bore, and Beth Grieve and Trish Gogas were doubles finalists, while Grieve, Gogas, and Beth Isles made the final in doubles with partners from the Port Huron area.

Sarnia’s Beth Grieve was also honoured with the Francis J. Robinson Sportsmanship Award, given annually to the player who demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship.
