Steve Pellegrini has joined the NHL’s New York Islanders as an assistant general manager.

Pellegrini, who grew up in Sarnia and attended St. Helen’s elementary and St. Patrick’s high school, spent the past 12 years as vice-president of hockey operations with the New Jersey Devils.

The Islanders said his experience in contract negotiations, salary cap compliance, scheduling and scouting will be an asset to the team.
