Salmon Derby winners announced

The final numbers aren’t in but it’s expected more than 1,000 anglers participated in the Bluewater Anglers 38th Annual Salmon Derby.

The final numbers aren’t in but it’s expected more than 1,000 anglers participated in the Bluewater Anglers 38th Annual Salmon Derby.

A total of 449 fish were entered at the Sarnia weigh station and another 705 at the Port Franks station, for a total of 1,154 fish.

“For the number of fish it was an average year, but overall everybody seemed pretty happy,” said derby spokesperson Paul Heckley.

The official winners are:

- Bill Gray, Camlachie, Salmon category, 15.92 lbs.

- Adam Ibbotson, Burlington, Trout - Boat category, 10.07 lb. rainbow.

- Robert Myllyoja, Sarnia, Trout - Shore category, 11.36 lb. rainbow.

- Scott Tomlinson, Sarnia, Lake Trout category, 15.50 lb.

- Joe Thompson, Sarnia, Walleye category, 8.36 lb.

The Kids Big Fish winner was Nick Discanno of Sarnia with a 13.50 lb. salmon.

The Ladies Day winner was Michelle Vandenheuvel of Sarnia with a 13.74 lb. salmon.

The Seniors Day winner was Irwin Burges of Sudbury with a 12.72 lb. salmon.

The awards night was scheduled for Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Point Edward Community Centre.
