Ken James was a devoted public figure and two-term MP for Sarnia-Lambton.

He died, surrounded by family, on Sept. 24, at the age of 80.

James grew up on the family’s Blackwell Road farm and was a marketing and sales manager before entering politics.

In the former Sarnia Township he served as a councillor and reeve before seeking a seat as a Progressive Conservative in the 1984 federal election.

James served in the government of Brian Mulroney and was re-elected in 1988.

After returning from Ottawa in 1993, James continued his public service with number of groups and committees, including the board at the Blue Water Bridge until 2012.

The family planned a private service, and city hall lowered its flag to half-mast on Monday.
