Village council has appointed Deputy Mayor Bev Hand to the top job for the next two years, thus avoiding the need for a by-election.

Hand, who is the daughter of former Point Edward mayor Barb Horner, has been the deputy mayor since the 2014 election.

The mayor’s position became vacant earlier this month when Larry MacKenzie tendered his resignation earlier after three years as mayor and 28 years on council to spend more time with his family.

Coun. Janice Robson is the village’s new deputy mayor.
