Two Sarnia-area boys made an impact playing hockey in the U.S. this year.

John Chartrand and Joshua Mackenzie, both 9, were members of the Macomb Mustangs, a Squirt Major AA team, which is the equivalent of Atom Major in Ontario.

Chartrand is a goalie and Mackenzie a centre and assistant captain.

The team had a very successful year, finishing second in league play and suffering a tough 3-2 loss in the state championship game to Traverse City on March 9.

The Mustangs also excelled at tournaments this year and were the champions of one tournament held in Mentor, Ohio.

Both boys played travel hockey in Sarnia over the past several years, and moved up a year to play for the Mustangs this season.

The Macomb team is one of 650 in the Detroit Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League.
