Paddy Flaherty’s Irish Pub has been granted an exemption from Sarnia’s noise bylaw for the entire summer on a one-year trial basis.

The exemption will allow bands to play live outdoor music on the patio until midnight on Friday and Saturday nights, from June 1 to September 15.

Until now, the pub on Sarnia Bay has had to apply for noise bylaw exemption for music after 8 p.m. on an individual or group date basis.

Sarnia Police said there were no objections to the request and received no complaints about Paddy’s in 2017.

However, some neighbours raised objections, including residents of The Water’s Edge apartment tower on Front Street who submitted a 39-name petition opposing the move.

If no problems arise this summer, the pub could be granted a multi-year exemption next year.

Other louder and later noisemakers were also granted exemptions last week.

Performers at the second annual Bluewater Borderfest music festival can play until 12:30 p.m. in Centennial Park on July 26-28.

Artwalk’s outdoor concerts can go until 11 p.m. on June 1-2 on stages at 157 Christina St. N. and 137 Davis St.

And the Ministry of Transportation was granted an exemption to allow overnight construction noise on Highway 402 at the Airport Road overpass for up seven consecutive nights between now and Nov. 30.
