The Point Edward Minor Athletic Association is one of 40 Ontario organizations getting a new set of hockey goalie equipment to helps players age 5-7 try out for the position.

The Goalie Assist Program lets minor hockey groups keep the equipment at the end of the year to loan to players in following seasons.

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association said the program is designed to remove barriers for kids who dream of playing the specialized position.

“The equipment gives every player a chance to try being a goaltender without making the financial commitment,” said executive director Ian Taylor.
