But the naming rights to the city’s premier sports and entertainment venue will be up for grabs after city hall puts them on the auction block next spring.

The Royal Bank of Canada has had a working partnership with the Sarnia Sting hockey club since 2009.

But after Sarnia assumed ownership of the arena this summer it negotiated an extension with RBC. The one-year deal will pay the city $35,000 and expire next Sept. 30.

A request for proposals will be issued early in the first quarter of 2015 offering the naming rights to the highest bidder.

“It’s a tremendous marketing opportunity,” said Mayor Mike Bradley.
