Ministry reviewing traffic safety on Highway 402 in city

Ontario’s Transportation Ministry is conducting a safety review of Highway 402 in Sarnia.

Ontario’s Transportation Ministry is conducting a safety review of Highway 402 in Sarnia.

The review arose from two serious truck accidents this summer and is looking at speed limits, signage, the history of collisions and other factors that could result in better safety, said Minister Steve Del Ducca.

The ministry is also working with the Federal Bridge Corporation on possible improvements in the traffic flow approaching the Blue Water Bridge toll plaza, the minister said.

Del Ducca was responding to letters from Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley and MPP Bob Bailey asking for provincial help.

A U.S. driver was killed July 19 after three transports-trailers crashed east of the Christina Street interchange.

Five days later, another three rigs collided in a chain reaction not far from the first crash.
