Replacing the roof and removing mould and asbestos from the Kinsmen Community Centre could cost a quarter of a million dollars, city staff estimates.
Most of the centre’s tenants were relocated after visible mould was discovering in the Oakwood Room in May.
A full structural assessment has confirmed the flat roof membrane has been leaking and needs to be replaced.
As well, the building at 656 Lakeshore Rd. needs masonry and foundation repairs, a new parking lot, accessibility upgrades and mould and asbestos remediation, for a total cost of $219,000 to $239,000.
A subsequent report to city council will consider the value of the former elementary school and seven-acre property relative to the needed repairs.
