A powerboat that plowed into the beach near Canatara Park and slid about 35 feet (11 metres) up the sand has resulted in drunk driving charges against a Michigan man.

On July 3, Sarnia Police arrived at an Andover Lane home to find beach chairs knocked askew and the 35-foot vessel resting on a grassy bank, its twin outboard propellers dug into the sand.

No injuries were reported.

A 35-year-old Grosse Point, Michigan man, who was still aboard, was arrested for impaired boating and taken to police headquarters.

Police say he blew two-and-a-half times over the legal limit.
