Dynamic duo win medal haul at Ontario Masters Championship

Two city swimmers had outstanding performances at the Ontario Masters Swimming Championships, held March 23-25 in Nepean.

Wally Henne raced in six individual events in the 80-to-84 age group and won gold in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke.

Henne also took silver in 100m backstroke and 100m individual medley, as well as a bronze in 100m freestyle.

He also swam the breaststroke leg of a race that broke an Ontario age group record in the men's 4x50m medley relay.

Sue Weir, competing in the 60-to-64 age group, won six gold medals, defeating all challengers in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 100m individual medley and 50m freestyle.

Weir also swam in three relays and collected a bronze in a 4x50m mixed freestyle event.

A total of 460 athletes took part in the provincial meet.
