Drouin won’t be flag-bearer

Corunna’s Derek Drouin will not be Canada's flag-bearer at the opening ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games in Scotland this month.

The Olympic and World Championship bronze medalist was considered a finalist for the honour, but the task was given to veteran trap-shooter Susan Nattrass by the Canadian Olympic Committee.

Nattrass, 63, is a six-time Olympian and seven-time world champion in her sport.

Nevertheless, Drouin will be among the favourites in men's high jump, which takes place Monday, July 28 at the Games.

The St. Patrick’s High School grad and five-time NCAA champion at the University of Indiana is one of 267 athletes Canada is sending to Glasgow.

Canada finished fourth in the medal count at the 2010 Commonwealth Games behind Australia, England and India.
