Corunna's Derek Drouin won the gold medal in men's high jump at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

He took first place with a leap of 2.31 metres to beat out a jumper from Cyprus.

The winning jump was well short of his Canadian record of 2.40 metres, set at the Drake Relays in Iowa in April.

Drouin's other international gold came at the Francophone Games in Nice, France last September.

The 24-year-old graduate of St. Patrick’s High School is the fourth ranked high jumper in the world.

He won bronze medals at the Summer Olympics in London in 2012 and the World Championships in Moscow the following year.
