An environmental assessment decision on Ontario Power Generation’s plan to bury radioactive waste in an underground cavern less than 200 kilometres from Sarnia has been pushed back to Dec. 2.

The move will allow a 90-day public comment period on the potential conditions and possible mitigation measures, should it proceed, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency said.

OPG wants to bury low and intermediate level radioactive waste at the Bruce nuclear site near Kincardine, not far from the Lake Huron shoreline.
