Emily Schaefer has been named women's rookie of the year in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) women's wrestling.
The four-time provincial high school champion from Northern Collegiate was chosen top freshman after winning the 51 kg title at the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) wrestling championships in Sudbury, Ont.
Sarnia's Ethan Smith also won a medal at the provincial event, placing third in the men's 65 kg category.
Schaefer and Smith both advance to the national championships at the University of Alberta this weekend.
